Most definitely (re: can DSS support streaming hinted mpeg1 files)
What you have to do is use QuickTime Pro-enabled version of the
QuickTime Player, load your MPEG1 movie into the player, and
then export as "Movie to Hinted Movie". Under Options (within the
save dialog), be sure to check "Make Movie Self-Contained" and
verify that the individual tracks to be hinted are selected (ie. MPEG1
Muxed)
This will in effect wrap your MPEG1 codec movie within a Hinted
QuickTime movie that now contains hint tracks.
My suggestion is to open up the MPEG1 movie (that you believe is
hinted) in QuickTime Pro, and open "Get Movie Properties" (under Movie
menu)
and verify that in addition to the MPEG1 track, you have a hinted MPEG1
track. If not, then go back and re-export the file as "Movie to Hinted
Movie"
(see above).

Hi friends,
I'm testing DSS4.0(RH7.2) to service VOD. And can
DSS support hinted mpeg1 files? When I play the hinted
mpeg1 files, the server says that "415, unsupported
media type".
And what media type are supported?
Anything special must be done to the mpeg1 files(it
has been hinted from QT5.0 pro)?
Thank you!
