Re: Performance difference of QTSS on RH and OSX

Yes, this is normal and is the expected behavior using QTSS 4.1.x + QuickTime 6 Player.

The (approx.) 7 second delay (latency) that you are seeing in the reflected live stream is likely
due to the "skip protection" and overbuffering of the live stream. If your QuickTime Player clients
were to encounter any amount of packet-loss, then this overbuffer should provide sufficient
time for the QTSS server to detect it and retransmit the missed packets to the QuickTime
Player again in order to provide a continuous stream and improved QOS (quality of service).

Without overbuffering, the QT client's connection might continually be near the "ragged edge" of
starving for data and any loss of packets would not have sufficient time to be retransmitted, thus
resulting in potentially poor video/audio quality on the streaming QuickTime Player. Our "skip protection"
and overbuffering provides a higher QOS (quality of service) at the cost of introducing a small
amount of real-time latency into what the QT Player is receiving.

I tried again with the live video streaming: (using SONY DV camera)
. choose LAN-slow-motion with 15 fps.
. start broadcasting with 0 buffer
. 1 minute later, start qt6 local mac machine.
. start another qt6 on win2k box located in the same 100LAN.
. Broadcaster displays that 'Total Data Rate' is about 300-400kbits/sec,
and both CPU is 30-40% loaded.

If I wave in front of the camera, I can see it on the broadcaster window
right away but can only
see it on both qt player around 7 seconds later. Is that normal? Since there
is 0 buffer on broadcaster
and the qt player, does the delay happen on the QTSS?
