You can created a dummy "hint" file using a text editor.

The hint file should contain simply the following:

     rtsptext rtsp://AddressOfDarwinServer.DOM/filename.mov
    or
     rtsptext rtsp://IPAddressOfDarwinServer/filename.mov

This is not true. There is no such a thing as as "dummy 'hint' file". Either a movie has hint tracks or not.

Making a text document with the "rtsptext" prefix and saving it with a .mov extension will create a text based "reference" movie and not a "hint" movie.

You must still hint the movie with the actual video/audio media before uploading it to the streaming server. Once the _hinted_ movie is on the server, then you can create a reference to it via a text document like described above.

I just want to make sure people don't think that they can "fake" creating hint tracks. There is no way around that if you want to use RTSP/RTP with QTSS/DSS.
