General info (go further down to find my question)
Cactus are successfully delivering Mobile Streaming (mobileTV and
VOD), and it works like a charm. For those interested we are now
developing a “version 2” of our platform. Its an advanced billing /
stream session control engine, using DSS for streaming.
My question
We mainly stream to mobile phones, and typically the Northern
European phones (latest models from) SonyEricsson and Nokia. The late
Nokia phones (all their “smart” phones) use RealPlayer. When
streaming (a 3gp file) to such a phone it has problems. A “sister-
phone” that uses the built-in player (I’m not sure of this is a
quicktime player) plays the stream without any problems.
So my question – does anyone know why the RealPlayer does not play
the same file / stream that works perfectly on any other mobile
player? Is this a bug in the RealPlayer?
Other developers in the “mobile streaming” market has told me that
this is something Real has done, in an effort to push their Helix
solution that supposedly works fine with this player.
