Re: Relay on-demand content

That solution won't scale for my application. I need on-demand relay capabilities.

From reading the fine print in the manual, it looks like "Request incoming stream" in the relay setup will do what I want, and I can add code hooks to setup and teardown these relay entries as needed.

Thanks though

Skye

This is probably best done at the file-system level.
1) Get some NAS (Network Attached Storage) or have a folder in your main streaming directory called "global" (or something like that) that you share using NFS.
2) Mount the global files on all your streaming servers.
3) Assuming you've done everything correctly, your NAS will now have all files placed in it globally accessible via the convention:
rtsp://server1.yourfarm.com/global/sub-dir/video.mov
rtsp://server2.yourfarm.com/global/sub-dir/video.mov
rtsp://server3.yourfarm.com/global/sub-dir/video.mov

And you can use these as the QTSRC property of your embedded Quicktime file, I believe.

This, of course works best if your LAN/SAN is faster than your WAN. Otherwise there really won't be much benefit to having this set up this way, besides redundancy.

If you are doing this because you've multiple servers in different geographical locations, then by all means, mirror every file to every streaming server. Look up RSYNC to help you only copy files that have changed.

Hello,

DSS can of course be configured to relay live broadcasts. However I would also like to be able to relay on-demand video (static files) to spread the bandwidth and load over multiple servers. Is this possible with DSS?

I'm reading the manual again, but don't see anything like that mentioned.

Thanks,
Skye
