Req for help with Darwin server custom format support

Hi Apple media server experts,
I am very new to Apple Darwin server and so have a very basic question.
We have a project to stream medical images(.DICOM format) from a
central archive to client machines across a network.
The tricky part is that no format conversion is allowed so as to preserve
the original file in its entirety. ie No loss of clarity is acceptable
for these medical images. Is it possible to wrap around the custom file as
packets to be streamable by Apple server (ie. not converting to .mov file
beforehand). In other words,is any mechanism of server plugins allowed? We
intend not to tamper with the server code, and make a seperate module for
custom format streaming and playing..Is it possible?

Thank you very much for your time and suggestions..
Warm Regards
Ajai
