Help! Multiple camera's / one machine

Anybody please know the answer to this?

I need to know asap, I'm awaiting on a job atm.. and I aint exactly got the
$$$ to go buy firewire devices to find out they aint what I need, lol.

Just need to be able to encode four video streams on the one machine (same
audio source), will be win2k based, and stream this to a BSD box running
Darwin.

How can I have multiple capture devices on the one machine?  What encoding
software would I use?

Are there alternatives to Sorenson (as its expen$$ive) I've heard... anybody
got any ideas of $AU prices.
