The two files that contain information about bits transmitted to
clients are:
mp3_access.log
StreamingServer.log
Here is the directories they are located in for each main distribution:
Mac OS X Server
/Library/QuickTimeStreaming/Logs/
On other *nix distros
/var/streaming/logs/
Win 32
c:\Program Files\Darwin Streaming
Server\Logs\
Note: just like the Apache web server, QTSS/DSS simply records client
connection details but does not perform any major automatic log
processing. Just like tools such as Analog do this for Apache it would
be wise to employ a log analyzer for QTSS/DSS.
There are a number of tools that can process QTSS/DSS logs. Find a list
at:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/tools_tips/loganalysis.html
As well you also want to check out:
Sawmill at:
http://www.sawmill.net/http://www.sawmill.net/formats/Quicktime_Streaming_Server.html
Also note that the web-based administration tool (under Server
Snapshot) provides a total Bytes served number. This it not based on
calendar months (I believe since last restart) but it may help you to
guesstimate ballpark your consumption.
