Thanks for your interest.

To build using gcc 4, I didn't have to make any changes.
I only used the ready-made install script in the DSS source directory:
cd DSS-cvs-051214/StreamingServer
./Buildit

That's interesting, I've had problems compiling DSS with gcc 4, could
you post the commands you use to compile, I'd be very curious to see
them?
