Nothing wrong with obvious questions, most mistakes are obvious too :)
Movies play fine when played from disk with VLC or Mplayer, I'm just
having a hard time tracking down the specifics of the problem, partly
due to a lack of suitable movies to test with. I have the sample files
that come with DSS but they're not enough, and movies from archive.org
seem to have some audio issues and I don't trust them for testing.
