Until recently I used Quicktime Broadcaster running to my Mac G4 to broadcast to DSS but the Mac has been put to a different use and is no longer available for broadcasting. My question to the list is, are there any cheap/free broadcasters for a Windows/Linux platform?

Someone had suggested a Windows based broadcaster that cost well over $500 and had features that I didn't require. Then there was mp4live but I couldn't get it to compile on any of my Linux distros. VLC running on Linux wasn't very helpful either as it wouldn't recognize my DV cam.

Can anyone recommend a free or at least a fairly cheap broadcaster that can run on Windows/Linux? Can Quicktime Pro on Windows be used as a broadcaster? Has anyone had success with VLC on Windows?
