Re: Using QTSS to create and multicast playlists

George, thanks for the info.

The command-line approach does appear to be a nice way to do it, and will try it when I have more time.
But I am under the gun today. I have already learned to create relays, and only have to learn how to modify the sdp file already created by the web admin.
Can you give me any tips on if and how I have to change it, based on the info below, for both the sdp on the server, and to distribute to the client?
That's assuming I only have to change some of the IP addresses and ports. If it's more than that, I'll go the command line route.

BTW, your directions on setting up a unicast to multicast relay were invaluable

You may want to use PlaylistBroadcaster from the command-line and send directly to a multicast address. This will avoid the complexity of setting up a relay. You'll want to generate the sdp file from PlayListBroadcaster and put that on a web server. Clients can tune in on the multicast via the http url to the sdp file (make sure to send the correct mime type from your web server).

This is covered in the help section of the web admin interface. Also available online here:

Anyone had any experience creating a playlist in QTSS and multicasting it using the built-in Relay?
The multicast relay works fine when I unicast from another computer using QT Broadcaster , but I had some questions on multicasting playlists.

First of all, are we supposed to use the bottom form in the QTSS web-based admin playlist editor, "Send this playlist to a broadcast server", when the same computer is both creating the playlist and reflecting it? And, if so, are we supposed to put in the network address of the computer (136.244.96.107) or the multicast address (233.88.214.140), in the "IP Address"?

Second, I am trying to verify the changes I have to make in the sdp file for clients to receive the multicast.
For example (this is simplified), in the sdp file created by QT Broadcaster, and put on QTSS, we have:

o= IN IP4 127.0.0.0
m= audio 5432 RTP/AVP 96
c= IN IP4 136.244.96.107
m= video 5434 RTP/AVP 96
c= IN IP4 136.244.96.107

This is changed to the following sdp for distribution to multicast clients

o= IN IP4 127.0.0.0
m= audio 9000 RTP/AVP 96
c= IN IP4 233.88.214.140
m= video 9002 RTP/AVP 96
c= IN IP4 233.88.214.140

Here is the summary of the sdp file created by the playlist, which is a bit different:

o= IN IP4 136.244.96.107
c= IN IP4 127.0.0.1
m= audio 0 RTP/AVP 96
m= video 0 RTP/AVP 96

would I change this, for multicast clients, to:

o= IN IP4 127.0.0.0
c= IN IP4 233.88.214.140
m= audio 9000 RTP/AVP 96
m= video 9002 RTP/AVP 96

I believe I figured out all the settings in the QTSS Relay windows, but am a bit confused on playlists, and only have a few hours Monday to test this with the network admins, who want to be there for any multicast changes. Trying to get my ducks in a row...Right now the playlist seems to be working fine from
rtsp://136.244.12.63/play2.sdp
The b-frames sometimes don't work on VLC (jerky playback), so I am re-encoding without them, using 1 mbps H.264.
We also have the usual occasional unpredictable client problems on VLC on OSX when using rtsp, but the QT Broadcaster multicast works well.
We will make the playlist and multicast from 136.244.96.107/233.88.214.140
