dss in a production enviroment

Howdy,

This is my first time using mailing list. I hope I'm not being unethical . I'm currently working towards deploying DSS 5.5.5 in a live streaming enviroment for my church. I'll be using mp4live [ver 1.6.1] for the source client. DSS will be running off a host runing CentOS 4.6. I'll be getting a dedicated server located at a datacenter and will have access to an uplink speed of 1000mbps. I ran preliminary test using mp4live [the video standard was H264 using the x264 codec and the audio was aac, for that I used the faac library]. The results at 400kbps was quite impressive. Before going live, I plan running alot of load testing and observing performance with the firewall rules I'm putting together [Iptables version 1.4]. After speaking with one of the individual that'll eventually finance this project, it was brought to my attention that the amount of concurrent connections will eventually go above 6 thousand. In the event we ge that far, I plan to setup load balancing over a cluster of two, three or more servers if required.

I'll be working strictly on command line via ssh and have no plans to use the web interface as that would imply having the server listening for connections on an additional port. I've read alot about DSS and according to wikipedia, Akamai uses it for their mpeg4 streams. I'm still working on the securiy [firewall and IPS] portion of the whole project. Apart from running a secure shell daemon, the server will be dedicated to running DSS only. The server config will be P4 2.8GHz Dual Core 920 with 1GB of ram. That said, would using DSS 5.5.5 be a good idea and is there any suggestion and/or recommendations on issues I should look out for.

Thanks Warm Regards,
