I need to make separate reference movies for the different data rate
alternates and add a chapter/text track to each. Then, I need an
additional reference movie that will call not the alternates that exist
on the DSS, but the alternates with chapters that exist on the web
(http) server.
BTW, anyone out there using VBR encoding with DSS for video on demand?
I had a lot of problems last time I tried using 2-pass H.264. --audio
sync and breakup I believe were the problems encountered. I am
wondering if I should revisit it or not.

My site has video on demand via Darwin Streaming Server. Generally, I
encode CBR 300Kbps. I'd like to add a 40Kbps video alternate. This
is easy using MakeRefMovieX app.
The problem comes when I add a text track for my chapters to the
reference movie.
Once I do this, I cannot save the changes (the computer beeps).
Instead, I have to "save as" and overwrite the file.
That is no big deal except for the fact that it apparently dumps one
of the alternates. Depending how I have Quicktime Preferences set for
connection steep, I will see one or the other alternates. When I
overwrite the reference movie after adding the text tract, the other
alternate is no longer referenced.
How should I change my procedure so that I can have a reference movie
with alternates for different connection speeds AND a text track for
chapters?
Thanks,
Cris
