Cortland,
I lost the original, but I find that whenever the ethernet cable is
unplugged, it hangs for a long while, but mine hangs at the portion where
it checks for a connection before login (not sure if this is what you
said). If I just connect it to my hub or switch with/without internet, it
zips right past this.
Older Macs were a major drag with checking connectivity or network time,
or in my worst expereinces - network drives. I believe they are/were
hard-coded for a 60-second timeout, which is a major nightmare when trying
to diagnose a bad connection or network volume from a Mac.
I'd be interested to hear what others have experienced and recommend on
this general topic (sorry to expand this way beyond the original, but it's
a longtime pet peeve).
Thanks,
-Matt
