Erm... you've got to be joking! *Anyone* can join this list. Most ADC
student members get the scholarship, and by paying the $100US for
membership at least Apple knows you have some initiative (and are a
student!).

I know this! ;-)
I was going to mention the disclaimer, 'those who are members as of
today'. I mean, the thing starts in how many days? And as far as the
$100 goes... does Apple really *need* the $100 per student? The $$$ is
coming from those paying $1500. This discussion has gone on and off
since this program's inception.
Like I mentioned, the investment in the students is what is required,
students = future, future development = embraced platform by developers,
future of platform = development. Infinite loop (how ironic, Apple's
address!) ;-)
Like I said, what do I know... I'm not in charge. :-]
I assume you like paying $100 this year.
Initiative? I say, those students scraping up the $$$$ for travel
expenses (flight, boarding, etc.) is initiative enough.
The future of the platform is dependent upon developers. There are many
choices, as much as an Apple fan I've always been, it's obviously not
the only platform to develop for.

Since the return of Steve Jobs, developer support from Apple has done a
180 degree reversal, and this is *extremely* encouraging and
refreshing. But Apple should make up for the ground they lost in the
past (as far as developer support is goes)
