Title: Support Mac Pro and iMac with one imageAll,
I have a very specific problem with my APL OS X 10.4.10 Intel image.
My image currently supports all of the Intel Macs including the new iMac models.
The new iMacs require 10.4.10 build 8R4031.
I loaded this into my current image when we got the first new 2.4 AL iMac.
The problem I am running into is rather specific. A Mac Pro with two video cards kernel panics on boot with this build.
If I put in only one card it is fine. I have tried all kinds of combinations of different Mac Pros and multiple cards.
It boils down to a Mac pro with 10.4.10 build 8R4031 and any two video card will NOT boot.
I have tried many things to fix the image.
I tried building a Mac Pro with the 10.4.10 build 8R3032 DVD that ships with latest Mac Pros.
An iMac can boot from this but it does not have the correct Ethernet drivers. I’m sure there are other missing drivers too.
I cannot load the iMac 10.4.10 build 8R4031 on top of the MacPro 10.4.10 build.
I have even tried the latest 10.4.11 build 8S2159. It does not work for both either.
If I start with the iMac DVD and load 10.4.111 on top of that the Mac Proo with 2 card still wont boot.
If I start with the Mac Pro DVD and load 10.4.11 on top of that the iMac does not get all the iMac specific drivers.
I have certainly run into issues with supporting new Mac models in my images. Usually waiting for the next OS rev solved it.
I know I am playing with the beta 10.4.11. I hope that is why it does not have both sets of drivers.
BTW 10.5 beta works on both iMacs and Mac Pros.
