I certainly don't want flame wars, and perhaps I overreacted to what I took
as condescending (A lot of UNIX heads seem to think they need this, when in
fact they don't) remarks.
The fact is that the vast majority of Unix systems are case sensitive, and
there's over 30 years of software development on these systems. It took me
less than four hours of working on OS X before the case insensitivity bit
me in the butt when trying to build software that we've been using and
developing for about 18 years.
If people are developing software on OS X, and want it to be portable to
other versions of Unix, then they have to take case sensitivity into
account. Ignoring this, and taking advantage of Apple's file system's case
insensitivy can lead to bad habits that will come back to bite them when
they try to build on other Unix systems. Typos in file names won't be
detected on OS X.
