This sounds like a video camera. As such, your best bet is to use the QuickTime APIs for this. I'm not a QuickTime guru, but if you go to the QuickTime development page <http://developer.apple.com/quicktime/> you'll find all kinds of information including links to QuickTime mailing lists.
