Notifying Users of a 301 Redirect?

Is it possible to notify users when they've been through a 301 redirect? In re-designing a rather large site, I'm running into the problem that I'll have potentially thousands of users following outdated bookmarks. The 301 will do it's job just fine for search engines, but most users won't notice to update their bookmarks; and I would hope that I won't need to the 301's around more than a few months while the SE's update.

Ideally, I'd like employ some basic logic to have a short script display a notice if the user has been redirected. For various reasons, the http-referer header doesn't quite return the info needed, so I'm stuck. Using IIS 6/ASP on the server. Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

- Dane Harmon
