Re: How to make PHP able to access another program

Hello,

Not sure this is the best place, but lots of PHP knowledge here so
here's a shot.

How do you make a unix tool - or other program accessible to the PHP
server?

<http://de.php.net/manual/en/function.exec.php>

Basically, I would like to transfer some information via a
CFMessagePort to reduce IO and disk thrashing.

I'm not sure where that fits in with PHP. I think you need to explain your goal a bit better. What do you mean exactly when you say "make ... accessible to the PHP server"?

A main c++ program is on all the time, and I would love to be able to
query it via the message port for info - but have no idea how to add
a C program to PHP. A direct connection, or indirect via a tool -
either way is fine. I would need the tool to remain open, and
hopefully running all the time for the PHP server, too.

Meaning you have a server deamon running and want to contact it from PHP? The PHP<->MySQL connection does something similar and since it's all open source you can look at what they're doing. You'll probably find other examples as well.

Or check out <http://de.php.net/manual/en/ref.network.php> for another way to do it.
