It just so happens the beta was branched before that point. There was an unusually long time between the branch point and the beta release.


Is the Apple version of webkit based on a particular snapshot from webkit.org or
are each fix independently accepted or rejected by Apple?

We branch, and one we branch then we do have to merge in each fix individually. We haven't yet branched yet for the next major release, so right now you can reasonably expect all the fixes in TOT to be in the Safari 3 GM release.
