Adaptor Info for Microsoft SQL Server problem

I have to do a project with a legacy Microsoft SQL Server 2000 database. The database is running on a PC. I am on Mac.

In EO Modeler, I have set the connection info as follows, but I keep getting the error show below:
User: userid
Password: password
URL: jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://uspalws01:1433; Databasename=legacydb

where uspalws01 is the name of the PC and the database name is legacydb

This is the error I get

[Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket.

I have the latest jars from Microsoft, namely mssqlserver.jar, msbase.jar and msutil.jar installed in
/Library/Java/Extensions


and my permissions seem OK.
