Re: X11 (Tiger) Oddity: Alt+Letter Key Opens Menus

I've tried turning both of those off and on, but it makes no
difference. gVim does have an option to disable the alt key for opening
menus, but that didn't help. Typing alt+s, for instance, produces an o

There is a gtk widget set v. Apple X11 configuration conflict that's detailed here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304930 The cause of this is Apple has mapped the option key to both the X11 mod1 and Mode_Switch key symbols and gtk doesn't support this if the XKEYBOARD extension is not present. I was able to run X11 with the XKEYBOARD extension enabled from a terminal window, but was unable to figure out how to enable it by default.

You may be able to use xmodmap to map option to another of the X11 mod keys.

I have a bug open with Apple, but have yet to receive a substantial response.
