Re: PowerBook G4 to Connect Ethernet to RS-232 Console

Jason,

What you've done simply won't work. Just because you can physically convert the connectors doesn't mean that the two ends will talk to one another.

The Ethernet port is designed to speak at data rates of millions of bits per second; an RS232 port is intended to speak at far lower data rates -- usually around 9,600 or 19,200 bits per second.

What you need is a USB-to-serial port adapter that works with Macs, such as this one from Keyspan: <http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA19HS/>

Hope this helps,

John Francini

Hello All,

I connect RS232 end to my Cisco router, but can not access the terminal
using this configuration similar to how I can in Windows with Hyperterminal.

Does anyone know how to do this with Mac OSX?

Thanks.

Jason
