Excuse my irrelevance in this discussion, but why would it make no
sense? This is what xdmcp was designed for, and it is very usable
if everything just works.

I used to connect to my PC by xdmcp just like that. I gave up only
because I couldn't make quartz-wm copy-and-paste proxying work
(back in the Panther days), not because xdmcp itself is not usable.
