Which version of X11 do you have?

I've never had any such problem with X11 1.1.3.

Wow, so to be clear, if you select text in X11, use Cmd-C, then deselect the text by clicking somewhere else in X11, then paste into say, Mail.app, it works fine for you? Try it and see. It should fail.
