Here Cmd-V in X11 just produces a beep (even if there's something to
paste from the Mac OS X clipboard or X clipboard). I suppose that it
is not used at all in X11 (possibly except in its own windows, like
"Customize Menu", but I haven't tried).

Most modern X apps can use both, as described here:
