Re: Inconsistencies with ~/.xinitrc being loaded

What should the permissions be on the .MacOSX folder and the environment.plist file?

Please send me an example of you file as well.

On a related note, I am new to the list here. As a matter of convention is it appropriate to reply to the list, individuals, or both? I notice that by default, there is no "reply-to" in the headers like some other lists I am on (that by default hitting "reply" replies to the list)

Thanks!

I also found in an old FAQ that mentions something about a plist needing to be set up in ~/.MacOSX, except that directory does not exist in my home dir. I am running 10.4.8 on a MacBook Pro.

The file is environment.plist You will need to create $HOME/.MacOSX if it's not there.

Apple has an app note with a sample plist file. Ask if you'd like a copy of mine which does not set up X11.

The file is little more than an XML version of a name : value dictionary. It's not like an rc file though and things like $HOME will not get evaluated as it is read. You can't add a directory to the default $PATH.

The file is read at login to aqua time. It won't do any good to modify it after a login and expect it to apply to a newly launched application.
