Re: copy and paste between Aqua and X11 applications?

For me, in X11, it always works. Pastes just fine. Whatever is selected or copied from an Aqua app pastes just fine.

Instead some UI designer decided it was better to drop the mouse, hit an
obscure keyboard combination (I don't see a connection between a 'V' and
the word paste)

V is for paste due to its proximity to the control and command keys. z x c v are undo, cut, copy, and paste, because those are the four commands which were EXPECTED to be most frequently used. Of course, I use a dvorak keyboard, which makes them even sillier for me...but I'd be happy for them to WORK. :)

and then move you hand back to the mouse. I can't think of a worse UI
implementation.

Most of the reason I enjoy X11 and xterm so much is that it's entirely keyboard controlled...except for pasting. I don't know what the deal is with that.
