Re: copy and paste between Aqua and X11 applications?

In fact, you have 3 selection mechanisms under X11: cut buffers, the primary selection, and the clipboard. Like under Mac OS X, you usually need Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V, etc. to handle the clipboard under X11. But the (obsolete but still used by xterm) cut buffers and the primary selection are both handled by select and paste with the middle button. So, users can use what they prefer.

This is not very fair, because sometimes middle clicking is the ONLY way you can get things to work (e.g., in certain versions of OpenOffice when dealing with Chinese text). Ctrl-V pasting of Chinese often does not work correctly (gtk based apps being a general exception). If you have a mechanism which often is the ONLY way things can work, it cannot possibly be obsolete.

I also experience lots of intermittent copy-and-paste problems with
Apple's X, and yes, it is very inconsistent and it sometimes works and
sometimes doesn't.

BTW, on the topic of copy-and-paste, I never could got quartz-wm to
proxy copy-and-paste at all.

Gmail must die. Yes, I use it, but it still must die.
