compiling problem

I have now downloaded glib-2.12.0 and tried to compile. It told me that I needed to have pkg-config installed. so I then got pkg- config-0.21 and installed that. When I retried to install the glib it still says that pkg-config is not found.

Is there some search path I can change or add to the ./configure to allow me to do this?
