My guess is that this is the usual Spaces "every app lives in one
space" brain damage.  Try opening XCode projects on two different
spaces and hitting cmd-f in the "wrong" one.  *YANK*  Cmd-Tab to Xcode
on the "wrong" space, and even though it *has* a window on that space
-- *YANK*.  What leaves me laughing through the tears is that even if
you close every XCode project in the "home" space you *still* get
yanked back there for the find dialog.  Spaces severely needs a "Do
not yank" option...

Having said that, I just tried your scenario on my machine and didn't
have any space-yanking problems.  I don't doubt that you saw them
though...
