Problem with remote system using Mac as display

In the past I've been able to do the following

Start remote shell on remote host setting display to point back to my Mac

    DISPLAY=<myip>:0.0
    export DISPLAY
    xterm &

and have the xterm start on my Mac. And since the display was 'at my Mac'
all X applications started in this shell displayed on my Mac as well.

With the old Xquartz (as in from Tiger) this worked perfectly. Now I get the
following error:

xrdb: Interrupted system call
xrdb: Can't open display '<myip>:0.0'
Error: Can't open display: <myip>:0.0

/usr/bin/X11/xterm Xt error: Can't open display: <myip>:0.0

Forwarding is still turned on in sshd_config (X11Forwarding yes), and
com.apple.x11 indicates that 'nolisten_tcp' is still set to 0 (false).

What have I missed?

Local X works wonderfully. Dual displays with 1.2a7.

X is running, as seen in the Dock.
