This is a known issue that no one else on this list will comment on
except me, so far. I get the exact same behavior with 1.2a7 and 1.2a8
doing "Xquartz -query -once (mylinuxserverIP)". Since no one else
will even comment on this issue and I'm not an X developer, I have
absolutely no idea why this is happening.
I filed it under bug 5585456 and it got marked a duplicate of
5585374. That's actually a good thing, since they count duplicates as
votes to fix the problem.
I highly encourage you to report the bug as well. The more votes
the better!

Hi Guys,
Whats the story with keyboard input on the new X11 on Leopard, when I
start an XDMCP session to a Solaris server, I get the login screen
coming up, but can't type anything into the session, anyone got any
thoughts?
The command I'm using is just a straightforward:
X -query 192.168.1.103
I've tried updating using the 1.2a2 and 1.2a3 releases I found on the
mailing list, makes no difference, whatever I type is just coming up
in the console window I launch the X session from, very annoying.
