Re: X11, Leopard and Keyboard Input

The big thing I notice when you launch X11.app via this method is that the icon for X11 does not appear in your dock and therefore you can't switch to it to give it keyboard input I'm guessing. You are able to give it mouse input as I'm able to click the various buttons on the Solaris login screen no problem.

This is a known issue that no one else on this list will comment on
except me, so far. I get the exact same behavior with 1.2a7 and 1.2a8
doing "Xquartz -query -once (mylinuxserverIP)". Since no one else
will even comment on this issue and I'm not an X developer, I have
absolutely no idea why this is happening.

I filed it under bug 5585456 and it got marked a duplicate of
5585374. That's actually a good thing, since they count duplicates as
votes to fix the problem.

I highly encourage you to report the bug as well. The more votes the better!

Hi Guys,

Whats the story with keyboard input on the new X11 on Leopard, when I
start an XDMCP session to a Solaris server, I get the login screen
coming up, but can't type anything into the session, anyone got any
thoughts?

The command I'm using is just a straightforward:

X -query 192.168.1.103

I've tried updating using the 1.2a2 and 1.2a3 releases I found on the
mailing list, makes no difference, whatever I type is just coming up
in the console window I launch the X session from, very annoying.
