What does "we may be using Carbon" mean? In what sense is Xquartz using Carbon?

I'll hazard a guess that this comment was made by an early Xquartz contributor (external to Apple) who was unfamiliar with the high-level Mac OS X frameworks.

Xquartz, like any GUI app, _does_ use Carbon. (This is also true for "pure-Cocoa" apps, since Cocoa and Carbon share a lot of fundamentals.)
