Normally you have to execute xhost + to allow connection. . . when you do that it launches X11. . . then you try to remote ssh into a machine. . . it completely locks up the shell, I'm assuming it's causing Xauth to hang.

I have not seen any problem with "ssh -Y", between Macs running Leopard or Tiger either way, or from a Mac/Leopard to Linux. No difference to Tiger, except that you don't need to set DISPLAY nor start X11.app. I am not sure where xhost would come into this.
