Oh, yes. The X11 in Leopard is completely new, based on a different upstream codebase and with myriad changes. We've been talking about several things that it broke (although it has some nice features, too). You can revert to the X11 that came with Tiger if it's causing headaches for you.
In the case of OpenOffice, I would also suggest that you give NeoOffice a try - it's an Aqua reimplementation of OpenOffice, no X11 required. Since it's Java, it's slower, which is a deal-breaker for some people, but I've been happy with it myself. Not that I won't still be happy when OpenOffice finishes their own native Aqua port.
How is the NeoOffice support for data sources connections? The mainstream
OO broke my connectors for MySQL recently. I don't have versions available
right now as I'm busy installing Tiger on a new hard drive in my PPC Mac
Mini (the 80GB drive failed so I got to get my hands dirty digging into the
little bugger tonight :-).
The Mac Store in Seattle didn't have a copy of Leopard this afternoon when
I picked up the new hard drive so I'm saved from that temptation tonight.

Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the
exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and
these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or
both. The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom
they oppress. -- Frederick Douglass.
