Yes, Tiger's mentioned. Afaict, that's a current document, and
nothing that says NOT for Leopard.

Here

  http://developer.apple.com/opensource/tools/X11.html

it does refer to "with Leopard ..."

Rather interesting argument for not providing any sort of
documentation. There's not even an OSX manpage for Xephyr (there is
for Xnest ...)

I'm confused. You asked me why I'm 'reinventing'. I'm just
following the docs I was able to find for Linux etc.

So if it's "the same as how it works on OSX", back to my original question:

what's wrong with what I'm doing.

No, per the very 1st sentence of my post:

  "I'm trying to connect via OSX's X11/Xephyr to a remote Linux server's
graphical desktop."

No, I've never mentioned xdmcp, and afaict, nnone of the docs/thread
I've quoted do either.

I'm trying to do what's referenced here:
http://etbe.coker.com.au/2007/01/07/xephyr/

I don't. The server's headless. The 1st goal is to connect to the
server/DomU, launch an X/KDE session, and see it on the Mac. Hence,
the point of the references and script above ...

The 2nd goal will be to connect to multiple different servers/DomUs
and see the sessions concurrently, in different windows, on the Mac.

The 3rd goal will be to connect multiple sessions to a single
server/DomU (i.e., multiseat/multiterminal).

And, ultimately to ensure that all of this is doable via encrypted traffic.
