Re: Xquartz 2.3 hangs on execution

You can not have more than one instance of X11.app running at a time. This opens X11.app up to a slew of potential problems. The end goal is to allow multiple servers to run within one X11.app, but that's a ways off. For now, you'll have to use Xnest or Xephyr if you want a second server to run.

Prior to upgrading to Xquartz 2.3 I was able to run the simple command

# X :1 -kb -once -query remotehost

This command very nicely started an X session connected to the remotehost. After upgrading to 2.3 this command does nothing. There is no output and the program simply hangs. The same behaviour occurs if I run either of the two commands

# X
# Xquartz

Both of these command used to generate intelligent errors, but now they produce nothing.

My X11 programs seem to work fine on the local machine. Is there a new method to start a second X session?
