Re: quartz-wm memory once again

I'd be happy to.

I was more interested in the number of Xquartz instances issue.  pstree shows who forked whom.  If you see a bunch of Xquartz processes running, give that another run and let me know what you see.

Unfortunately I had to restart between when all the Xquartz processes were
alive and now, but it's been up for about an hour, and here's the pstree

/usr/X11/bin/X :0 -auth /Users/njustn/.serverauth.83310

/Users/njustn/.serverauth.83310

I'd be happy to pull that again next time the memory starts getting out of
hand.

Could you install pstree and tell me the outout of 'pstree -S X11' ... You
can pull in pstree from macports and probably fink as well.

I don't, I only have ever seen quartz-wm have one instance, and only once
saw Xquartz with even 1, but when Xquartz showed up there were 19.
Actually
the only thing I start in a script is autocutsel and I have that set to
print whether it started it or just recognized an existing instance so I
can
make sure I only ever have one of those.  The only thing I can think
with
Xquartz is that sometime last night my dog stepped on the keyboard and
started about 120 xterms before I got back and noticed, so perhaps
something
went wrong with Xquartz when that happened.

Have you got a line that does "exec quartz-wm" or similar in some
script
you run repeatedly, to start an xterm, say??

Entirely possible, any thoughts on what might cause it, or why that
would

cause quartz-wm's memory to explode?

That is definitely not normal, there should only be one
instance of
that
process. Perhaps that's related to the issue you're seeing.
