Re: running MATLAB from remote machine

I had forgotten about the "-nojvm" option, which does allow you to run a command-line version of Matlab on a Mac and have the display on a remote machine. It doesn't provide the nice GUI with the editor, variable list, command history, etc., but it does run.

I just checked it by logging in from my MacBookPro to my PowerMac with "ssh -Y server.name" and running Matlab with "/Applications/MATLAB74/bin/matlab -nojvm". This is all on Tiger, so I can't verify that it still works on Leopard.

Michael,

It is my understanding that the Mac version of Matlab is only capable of displaying on the local display, unlike the Linux version of Matlab.

So it's not a 'true' X11 app?

Most of the matlab GUI runs under Java which uses aqua windows. Only the graphics windows run under X11. You can have a 'true' X11 version of matlab by starting it with the -nojvm option from the command line.

I did try this but IIRC the windows still appear on the remote Mac (where Matlab resides) and not the Linux machine where I'm logged in
