I apologize if my tone came across as "huffy"; that was not my
intention. I read your macosxhints post, (and robg's editorial note)
in its entirety before posting, but your hint explicitly said that the
solution was for "Command-Tab" so pointedly that I took it to be
purposely implying that it would not work for dock clicks, etc. I see
now that it actually addresses the more general auto-switching
problem, which I would have discovered if I had read further into the
comments on the hint such as this one:

"10.5: Disable Space switching on Command-Tab in 10.5.2
By: disambiguated on Wed, Feb 13 '08 at 8:54AM PST
Isn't this hint misnamed? It has nothing to do with Command-Tab, per
se; it's more along the lines of 'Disable Spaces virtual desktop
auto-switching' , or somesuch? "

Well, hopefully I've explained away the shock, which that should leave
just the understanding part. :-) I got a much larger monitor about
the time that leopard came out, so after my initial exploration of
(and frustration with) spaces, I simply turned spaces off and resolved
to wait until it got fixed (hey, it worked for the dock stacks!) The
posts I replied to today were the first time I had seen anyone else
articulate the auto-switching problem, as I'm not a regular
macosxhints reader (perhaps I should add it to my list...)

I've requested sans the checkbox (as you noted.) I'll update my radar
to point out as much.
