As Jamie already noted, you need to ssh in and then echo $DISPLAY to ensure that it's actually set. If not, make sure that the sshd on the Linux box is configured to allow X11 connection forwarding. The configuration file in Mac OS X is in /etc/sshd_config - the Linux box may have it somewhere else.


You should also see an auto-launch of X11 (quit it first just to verify this) when you do the ssh -Y ... on the client side. If you don't see that, something else is wrong.
