Getting the most out of ADC docs

I have a question about Apple's developer documentation and how to get the most out of it. I believe the documentation I'm talking about is not under NDA and is available out in the open on the developer.apple.com website, but just in case I'll be careful to avoid any specific details.

Now, there are two types of doc downloads that are available to developers: (1) The "Reference Library Updates" you get when you check for updated documentation from within the Xcode Preferences window. (2) Downloadable collections of PDFs (now it's these that I'm not sure about whether or not they are under NDA, so I won't mention any specific names).

My question is about this second type of documentation. How do you install it? Where do you put it? Unlike the Reference Library Updates, there's no installer; so do you manually merge it with your "/Developer/ADC Reference Library/" folder? Stick it somewhere else? Given that Apple has decided that Spotlight shouldn't index the "/ Developer/" folder, is there a system-wide location where I can put them so that I'll actually be able to find the information in them? (Actually, I think that behaviour has changed at some point somewhere between 10.4 and 10.4.3 because on testing right now I see that Spotlight *can* find stuff in "/Developer/" even though I haven't hacked it into any inclusion/exclusion list). What do other developers do with these docs to get the most out of them?

Cheers,
Greg
