I have a machine where I am logged in and Xcode is running, on my other
machine I see it as available for distributed building. When I logged
out, it disappeared. So its seems its not that simple.

My experience: I have two machines on my network where nobody is logged in and they do their share of building, no problem. Actually, this has been working for me since Apple introduced distributed compiling...
