Xcode doesn't work with a Perforce server configured in Unicode mode,
due to the fact that the P4CHARSET environment variable or the -C
option to the "p4" command must be specified.
MY SOLUTION
Write a wrapper script for the p4 command that specifies the -C option:
#!/bin/bash
/usr/local/bin/p4 -C utf8 $@
and then use that in the SCM configuration in Xcode.
ENHANCEMENT REQUEST
Please add support for P4CHARSET in Xcode for Perforce SCM integration.
COMPLAINT
Xcode sure doesn't whine very much when Perforce is really really
broken in this way. It will complain if you can't connect to the
server, but other than that -- total silence.
If anyone has any other workarounds or suggestions, they're certainly
welcome. But I think that P4CHARSET support will be required ASAP in
Xcode to be usefully compatible with Perforce. Or at the very least a
technote or FAQ entry.
Apologies if this issue is review. I did take some time to STFW and
did not come up with an answer.
