Joar is correct. The limit of 6 is a bit on the conservative side, but that was a purposeful decision. Unfortunately, distcc's performance does not degrade gracefully once the maximum number of processes has been exceeded. Too high and all of the local preprocessing tends to crush the local machine's will to live.


I would suggest trying different numbers and timing some builds.
