Which binutils? Apple does not use the default GNU binutil (but its
own ld and a heavily hacked as which was once forked from GNU as
1.38). So if you are referring to the GNU binutils, then yes,
replace Apple's versions with them will hose your Xcode tools.
Yes, I was referring to GNU binutils. I just joined the binutils
mailing list, in the middle of a discussion about how objcopy doesn't
work on Darwin, so it's clear that Apple's binutils are pretty far
removed from the rest of the world's.
