Delete in Xcode is mapped to upside down Question Mark...HELP!

Starting last Friday I have a problem. When I press the Delete button on the keyboard an upside down question mark character is printed (¿) and nothing is deleted. This has never happened before, and it only happens in Xcode. In Codewarrior, Firefox, and Textedit the Delete button works as expected.

I don't see anything unusual in keybindings settings. I tried 2 keyboards and exited Butler. It seems to come down to being something that Xcode is doing. Does Xcode read from a preferences file to determine how to handle a key press? Could a corrupted project file or user settings file cause the behavior? This happens for all my projects.

Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts! (imagine not using the Delete key for a day) I am using Xcode 2.5 on a Mac Pro with Mac 10.4.10. Version control using Subversion and svnX client utility.
